The Concord man who died after his residence on Lantern Lane caught fire Thursday has been identified as 60-year-old Alan Thorgerson.

Concord firefighters were dispatched to the two-bedroom home in the Crestwood neighborhood of manufactured homes just after 3 p.m. With smoke visibly coming from the home, firefighters entered and removed Thorgerson. He was transported to Concord Hospital, where he later died, according to a release from the Concord Fire Department and State Fire Marshal’s office. An autopsy determined the cause of death to be smoke inhalation.

Firefighters extinguished the fire about 20 minutes after arriving on the scene, and most of the damage to the home was smoke-related, according to Concord Fire Chief John Chisholm. Its cause and origin remain under investigation.

After initial reports of a second victim, Chisholm confirmed at the scene that Thorgerson was alone when the fire broke out.

The home is owned by the estate of David Thorgerson, according to city property records. An obituary states he passed away in 2022 at the age of 79.

Later that night, a fire in a large apartment building in Manchester around 11 p.m. left one resident dead. He and several others, unable to evacuate, were rescued by firefighters from the three-story building at 245 Village Circle Way. Fifty-five-year-old William Halloran died from smoke inhalation and was pronounced deceased when he reached the hospital. The cause of that fire also remains under investigation.
